Concert Review: The Killers (12/21/12)
Last Friday, I saw the Killers at the UIC Pavilion in Chicago. The openers were Tegan and Sara, who I had never really listened to before, but put on a very solid 30 minute show. The Killers played a great set bookended by songs from their debut, Hot Fuss ("Mr. Brightside" opened and "All These Things That I've Done" finished the 3-song encore). Although the apocalypse hadn't quite happened yet, after the band walked out to R.E.M.'s "It's the End of the World as We Know it" Brandon Flowers said that they were going to play like it was their last show ever and they certainly did that. Flowers sounded great on vocals, as did the entire band as they energetically played a strong setlist, focusing mainly on Battle Born, their new album, and Hot Fuss. They played a few songs from the very underrated Sam's Town and only three from Day and Age, both of which I was happy about. Highlights of the show were "Read My Mind," "Runaways" and "Mr. Brightside." I'm very glad that I finally got a chance to see The Killers and would definitely see them again.
