Concert Review: Fun. (1/24/13)

Yesterday, I saw Fun. at my school's student union. I managed to find a ticket the day of the concert, which was fairly lucky. The opener was Andrew McMahon of Jack's Mannequin and Something Corporate, who I liked a lot. He played a combination of both of those bands' music as well as some new music, all of which sounded good in a live setting. Then Fun. came on. Immediately, my ears were assaulted by the female part of the crowd shrieking, but I expected that. I'd seen them once before (Lollapalooza) and was very impressed by their musical talent, as I'd previously thought that most of their sound was studio-generated. I was similarly impressed this time as well. Nate Ruess and Co., playing a set that mainly centered on "Some Nights," their 2012 album, really brought it. They opened with "Out on the Town" and never looked back, playing an extremely energetic 14-song set (including a 2-song encore) that the entire crowd (made up of all college kids) loved. I would have liked to see a little more off of "Aim and Ignite" but I did like what they played from it. They really know how to get the crowd into their music. I came away from the concert with an appreciation for the musical talent. All in all, a very solid concert and when they come out with new music, I would most likely see them again.

Additionally, Nate was wearing an early 2000's Toronto Raptors jersey with the awesome logo which I was really happy about but nobody else seemed to notice.
